You can't have too many storage options, particularly if you possess a surplus of power tools, lawn care products, and machinery. If anything, you probably run short on places to store your stuff—and you don’t have to be classified as a hoarder just because you can’t find a spot for your weed wacker. Fortunately, a glaring lack of storage can be alleviated through the addition of a storage shed.

While many sheds can cost thousands of dollars, there are a few budget-friendly options available that can help you save money, time, and of course, indoor storage. So, whether your garage is uninhabitable for your cars, or you’re looking to finish your basement and need to find the room to do so, a simple storage shed can be a lifesaver. Below we look at some of the best storage sheds on the market right now.

Lifetime 15x8 Outdoor Storage Dual Entry Shed

This 15 x 8 foot shed can fit lawn mowers, bicycles, and other large items and equipment. It's made of heavy-duty, double-wall, steel-reinforced HDPE construction that will last for years.

Rubbermaid Roughneck Vertical Resin Weather Resistant Outdoor Garden Storage Shed

This vertical storage shed provides 17 cubic feet of storage space and comes in three different sizes.

Suncast 6' x 3' Cascade Storage Shed

An aesthetically pleasing and versatile addition to any yard, this shed will store your yard equipment in style.

Our reviews are driven by a combination of hands-on testing, expert input, “wisdom of the crowd” assessments from actual buyers, and our own expertise. We always aim to offer genuine, accurate guides to help you find the best picks.

Temporary storage sheds are typically made of durable fabric material with a solid steel frame. They are easy to set up, take down, transport, and store. They are usually lightweight, and one person can assemble it without much difficulty. Many temporary sheds also feature zipper doors that are easy to access. Remember that you may want to anchor down a temporary shed because it may collapse in strong windy weather.

Permanent sheds are meant to last for many years and are designed to stay put in one position for an extended period. These sheds are more heavy-duty than temporary sheds and can be made of plastic, wood, metal, or other materials. They come in a variety of sizes to accommodate different types of outdoor equipment.

Rubbermaid was founded in 1920 in Wooster, Ohio, and it makes a wide range of household items. In addition to sheds, it makes trash cans, storage containers, step stools, and shelving.

Keter was founded in 1948 in Israel, and the company currently operates in 90 countries. It aims to produce items that enhance people's homes and gardens, including storage sheds such as the Manor 4x6 Resin Outdoor Storage Shed.

Suncast has been making high-quality resin items and custom wood structures in the United States for more than 25 years. It designs a variety of products for the home, including outdoor storage, outdoor furniture, snow tools, dog houses, and more.

Storage sheds come in a variety of different sizes. Some are quite large and can accommodate machinery such as lawnmowers, while others are designed to house swimming pool floats and related gear. First, determine what you want to store in the storage shed and decide where you want to install it before choosing the size you require.

Some storage sheds are more heavy-duty than others. Permanent sheds are designed to hold up to year-round weather conditions, so they are constructed of durable materials. Temporary sheds are often built with material that can be punctured more easily, affecting its lifespan. Ensure the shed you purchase can withstand a little abuse, so it lasts a long time.

Some storage sheds can accommodate shelving, pegboards, and other accessories that allow you to customize the shed to suit your needs. Horizontal sheds have lids, while vertical sheds have doors, which can help you roll in heavier equipment. The more versatile a shed is, the more useful it is.

More on Garage Tools/Accessories

We don’t usually start off our list with the biggest, most expensive item, but this shed is just too awesome not to make it our best overall. Constructed from heavy-duty, steel-reinforced, dual-wall, high-density polyethylene,(HDPE), this shed is rustproof, waterproof, and weather-resistant. It will hold up to some serious wind, rain, sun, and snow and still look just like new for years to come. It’s also UV-protected to prevent unsightly fading and cracking. It’s rated to withstand wind speeds of up to 65 miles per hour.

This shed is cleverly designed with dual entry so that you can easily access its contents without having to remove everything in the front of the shed. Measuring 15 x 8 feet, it’s got the largest storage capacity of any shed on our list. With 7.9 vertical feet of headroom, you won’t have to worry about banging your head or not being able to stand up straight inside. The steep angle of the roof allows for rain, leaves, and snow to easily slide off. The floor is constructed from slip-resistant HDPE and is designed to protect against oil, solvents, and stains.

The only drawbacks to this shed are its steep price tag and the fact that it’s so large, it might not be able to fit in all yards or patios.

If you want to organize outdoor equipment such as lawn care machinery and gardening tools, consider this storage shed. This option has a storage capacity of 17 cubic feet with exterior dimensions measuring 30 inches wide by 72 inches high by 25 inches deep, but it's also available in two larger-sized options. Designed to hold up in various weather conditions, this shed is made of weather-resistant, dent-resistant, and leak-resistant material. The shed is easy to assemble and is heavy duty with an impact-resistant floor. You can also lock it to prevent theft (although you must purchase a lock separately). The unit is also designed to accommodate a pegboard, shelves, and other accessories for organizing your gear.

Unfortunately, there have been some complaints that the doors warp over time and may open inadvertently during windy conditions if they're not locked. Some users have also had to buy hardware for assembly.

The Suncast 6' x 3' Cascade Storage Shed deserves a shout out for being a quaint and cute storage shed that isn’t just functional, but aesthetically pleasing as well. With its faux shingled roof and vanilla and slate accents, it’s a handsome-looking addition to any yard. The only problem is that your kids might want to use it as a playhouse instead of letting you store your tools and landscaping equipment inside. It’s durably constructed from multi-walled polypropylene resin panels that will withstand some serious wear and tear and stay looking new for years to come.

This shed also features a heavy-duty reinforced floor that is designed to withstand some serious abuse and will be strong enough to support heavy lawn equipment, like mowers and tractors. Well-made double doors are a nice touch and perfect for moving around larger items. Thoughtfully placed windows are not only good-looking, but they let in plenty of natural light for you to be able to see what you’re doing inside the shed.

There are some concerns over the stability of the shed in windy conditions. Consider adding extra anchor points to secure it to the ground for maximum stability.

If you’ve got just a few items that you want to protect from the elements, or are limited on space, the Homspark Horizontal Storage Shed is an ideal solution. Like many other sheds on our list, it’s made from UV-resistant, rustproof, and waterproof high-density polyethylene. It won’t fade or crack and will hold up well for years. The twin-walled panels are blow-molded, so they’re extra strong. This shed is easily assembled with just a screwdriver and an Allen key in less than an hour.

With a top opening hatch and dual front opening doors, you can quickly and easily access anything stored in the shed, even if it’s at the bottom. This model is great for storing garden tools, BBQ grills, kids’ bikes, patio seat cushions, firewood, 32-gallon outdoor trash cans, pool accessories, and much more. It’s a modern and pleasing addition to any yard, garage, or patio.

However, there is some concern over the stability of the shed when all the doors are open as well as the long-term durability of the plastic door hinges.

The Keter Factor 6x3 Outdoor Storage Shed has a fun look while still being a straightforward and highly functional shed. It’s a perfect size for storing gardening tools, patio furniture, beach gear, bikes and accessories, power tools, a push mower, and much more. With 110 cubic feet of usable space, it’s definitely not the biggest shed on the market, but it’s a great option for smaller yards and patios.

It features a lockable double door with space for a padlock for extra security. The faux tile roof is equipped with strategically placed vents to promote airflow and allow for fumes to escape. The roof also features skylights that allow natural light to enter so you can see where your items are. Constructed from polypropylene resin, this shed will not rust or corrode and will look like new for a long time. A heavy-duty floor keeps your items off the ground.

There is some concern over the door hinges not being made from metal.

This storage shed is available in both small and large size options. It's made of electro-galvanized steel and treated with zinc to prevent corrosion and to withstand wet conditions. The steel panels are also UV-resistant, so they are less likely to rot or fail in sweltering temperatures. The shed has a low-gable, reinforced steel roof, and the entire structure provides 255 cubic feet of storage. The sliding door can be locked for security, and the color blends in with most environments.

Unfortunately, the shed may get dented or scratched during the shipping process. It's also a little short inside if you're a taller individual, and you may hit your head on the roof.

If you're handy and don't mind spending a little time building your own shed, consider this option. While you have to purchase the lumber separately, this kit comes with .22-gauge galvanized steel brackets, design plans, and assembly instructions. Experienced builders will have no problem assembling this kit, which has 90-degree cuts and no miter or angle cuts. The kit will build a shed that is seven by eight feet. The brackets are durable and can withstand rough conditions.

The downside is you need to have some experience to build this shed, and it will take more resources and time to install than a pre-assembled option.

That depends on your purpose. Some are designed to store gardening supplies or pool equipment, while others can store your motorcycle. We included some of the best storage shed options to suit your particular needs.

When it comes to large sheds, it's typically faster and easier to have it installed by a professional. However, it tends to be more expensive because you have to pay for labor and the structure. Building your own shed is cheaper, but it's more time consuming, and you may have to purchase tools for assembly if you don’t already have them.

Plastic sheds are exceptionally durable and long-lasting and don't require a lot of maintenance. They will not rot, but you usually cannot insulate them. Metal sheds are typically made of rust-resistant steel and are lightweight and easy to assemble. They are also resistant to mold and mildew. Both good options, but metal sheds may require more maintenance.

The longest-lasting sheds are those that are constructed of heavy-duty materials. Different storage sheds serve different needs, but some are built better for durability.

Our pick for the best overall storage shed is the Lifetime 15x8 Outdoor Storage Dual Entry Shed. It's large enough to accommodate lots of equipment, including lawnmowers and bicycles. It's also strong, durable, and features two separate entryways. For a more budget-friendly option, consider the  Rubbermaid Roughneck Vertical Resin Weather Resistant Outdoor Garden Storage Shed.
